He will call in the evening

When her eyes met his, she betrayed her innermost feeling. She knew he noticed. But his expression did not reveal anything in response. He had always been like that with her. And now, to her question, he said- "I'll call you with the answer in the evening."

She waited anxiously for his phonecall. And finally the number that showed on her ringing phone made her leap up from her seat.
"Hello?" she said.
"Hello," said a male voice that she immediately recognised. This was the moment of truth. "Your liver function test came out normal," the lab technician said. She smiled. She finally had her answer.

The lab technician hung up quickly and cursed himself. Why couldn't he just ask her out? He had seen in her eyes that morning that she felt it too.
